About

Kunstlichekadi (koohnst-lih-hyuh-kay-dee), German for, more or less, artistic kadi. Although it loses something in the translation. I am a constant crafter and always willing to try new projects and new techniques, but I can usually be found creating some type of accessory from natural fibers and textiles. My favorites include unbleached muslin, wool and bamboo yarns, and paper.

I love color! One of my flaws is always wanting to add too much color. It is something I am continuously mindful of when crafting things for people other than myself. The art of blending and pairing color minimally is something that I am envious of. Apparently, not everyone wants their accessories to be rainbow-colored. This overuse of color has been an issue as long as I can remember. My mom has a box full of coloring book pages from when I was very little and while my cousins’ and friends’ drawings are generally made up of a few colors, it would seem that my goal was to use every crayon in the box each time I colored.

I have never been around non-crafty people. They seem to be everywhere in my family. My mom, dad, grandma, aunt, uncle, and several cousins are all extremely creative and all in very different ways. I even lived with art students for the first 2 ½ years of college, despite my major being psychology. These people influenced my life every step of the way. I am told by one of my less-crafty cousins that it is possible to grow up around all these wonderful people and not inherit any of it, but I am still unsure about that. I think we just express it differently.

Art and creativity have always (and hopefully will always) played a huge role in my life, but what else is there you may ask. So much! The easiest way to explain me would be eclectic. But even then I don’t think that it reaches the depths of my many (and frequently changing) interests.
Crafting, obviously (sewing, knitting, drawing, pa
inting).
Geekery.  Including sci-fi (novels, shows, games), video games, board games, comic books, fantasy, science, computers, gadgets.
The list goes on, and on, and on. And to make
matters worse I am constantly falling in love with new things!
